Our Mission:
The HGCC Foundation aspires to be an outstanding philanthropic organization serving the broader Hamilton community.
Our Vision:
To be a significant charitable contributor to the community where our members live, work and play.
Funding:
The Borthwick Memorial Golf Tournament is the club's annual fundraiser in support of the HGCC Foundation and its local community charity partners.
The 50th edition of the tournament scheduled for 2020 was postponed as HGCC undergoes a transformational golf course renovation project on all 27 holes under the direction of noted golf course architect Martin Ebert.
Currently, the HGCC Foundation is in the process of a direct appeal campaign to previous Borthwick sponsors and the general membership to support our 2020 charity partners; Ancaster Community Services, Neighbour2Neighbour Food Centre and Alzheimer Society of Hamilton and Halton, plus additional charities if funds are available.
The HGCC Foundation is also in the process of planning for a Gala Dinner in 2021 to raise funds for our charity partners subject to limitations on public gatherings as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and provincial government guidelines. It is our hope that The Borthwick golf day will return in 2022 as we all know and enjoy it.
In 2019, the HGCC Foundation distributed approximately $260,000 to a number of local charities including; Routes Youth Centre, LIFT Church, Muscular Dystrophy Canada, Catholic Children's
Aid Society of Hamilton, Children's Aid Society of Hamilton, The Eva Rothwell Centre, Alzheimer Society of Hamilton and Halton, Neighbour2Neighbour Food Centre, McMaster Children's Hospital Foundation and Rygiel Supports for Community Living.
Since 1970 the club has donated over $3.1 million to local charities. Since making its first disbursements in 2013, the HGCC Foundation has distributed more than $1.5 million to local charities over the past seven years.
Board of Directors:
The 2020 HGCC Foundation Board of Directors operates at arms length from the club’s Board of Directors. Foundation Board members include; Foundation President; Brian Short, Foundation Vice-President; Al Scott, Pat Collins, Donna Calder-Louth and Chris Bellefeuille, plus HGCC Directors; Joel Ippolito ( ex officio), Sean McDonough and Richard Lennox.
